John Mulaney Newark Concert reviews
Night time nostalgia: Southern Rock at its finest
John Mulaney is in their element while Bo, brother of lead singer Bear Rinehart, jams on the banjo. The show is captivating, with the opening verses of "Outsiders" breathing life into the Basement, an intimate venue ideal for concert goers seeking a casual but explosive musical experience. John Mulaney takes the stage in an unassuming manner, but they are different. Sure, they look the part with the v-neck shirt and trendy myriad of necklaces. John Mulaney brings their vision of Heaven into the hearts of their fans, be it the Jesus they pursue or the childhood they knew. While "Girl from Tennessee" had fans dancing and "Lay 'em Down" had them engulfed in the gospel feel, living the pastoral dream of growing up in the rural south, John Mulaney is doing exactly what they're meant to do, and doing it humbly. With a stunning acoustic rendition of "Something Beautiful" wrapping up a fantastic evening.
